EAST HADDAM, Conn. (August 29, 2010) – Andy Mai of Suffield, Conn., and Kelly Whaley of Farmington, Conn., were crowned champions at the 2010 Jack Kelly PGA Junior Tournament of Champions, the Connecticut Section PGA Junior Golf TOUR Championship on Sunday at Fox Hopyard Golf Club. Mai posted a score of five under- par 66, a bogie free round with five birdies, good enough for a four shot margin of victory over Anthony Vecchiarelli of Agawam, Mass and Jeffrey Realejo of Portland, Conn.
Whaley recorded a score of five over-par 76, which included one birdie, two bogies and two double bogies. Finishing in second in the girls’ division with a seven-over-par 78 total was Nicole Yatsenich of Middlebury, Conn.
The Connecticut Section PGA also named the Jack Kelly Junior Golf Sportsmanship Award recipients that are annually presented to the boy and girl JGA members who best exemplify fair play, sportsmanship, and character.
The 2010 Jack Kelly Sportsmanship Awards winners were announced following completion of today’s event. This year’s Jack Kelly sportsmanship winner was Mike Steinberg, of West Hartford, Conn., was named the recipient for the boy’s division and Stephanie Winslow, of Farmington, Conn was named the recipient for the girl’s division.
Steinberg and Winslow will receive their awards at the Annual Connecticut Section PGA Special Awards Banquet held on Sunday, November 21, 2010, at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort Casino.
The boys Junior Golf TOUR Player of the Year for 2010 was John Flaherty from Glastonbury, Conn and the girl’s Player of the Year for 2010 was Elizabeth DiVincentis of Durham, Conn.
